For callus induction studies explants i.e., shoot tips hypocotyls and ischolar_mains were excised from six days aseptically grown seedlings. NAA 2 mg/l+BAP 2 mg/l was found best among various combinations used for induction of callus. For differentiation of callus BAP 1 mg/l+NAA 0.5 mg/l treatment combination was found to be the best that resulted in maximum number of shoot lets, for differentiation followed by profuse ischolar_maining to the regenerated shoots. For the completely developed plantlets, the maximum survival was observed with the hardening treatment where in the plants were directly transferred into polybags were kept in mist chamber. Keywords

The present investigation entitled “Studies on new male sterile lines and restorers in rabi sorghum” was undertaken to assess the per se performance of parents, to estimate the amount of heterosis for yield and yield components, to estimate the combining ability and fertility restoration and to identify heterotic combinations for further study. Significant heterosis has been recorded for yield and yield components in most of the crosses. The hybrid ms-104A×AKR-354 recorded highest heterosis and heterobeltiosis for grain yield and also exhibited significant heterosis except leaf area. For grain yield, the hybrid 104A×AKR-354 was followed by ms-104A×AKR-388-1, ms-104A×AKR-368 and AKRMS-69×AKR-388-1.Keywords

For most seed technologists and commercial seedmen, viability means that a seed is capable of germinating and producing normal seedlings. Viability denotes the degree to which a seed is alive, metabolically active and posses enzymes capable of catalyzing metabolic reactions needed for germination and seedling growth. This meaning deals with tissue viability as well as viability of the entire seed. Seed viability is probably highest at the time of physiological maturity though environmental conditions on the apparent plant may not permit germination. After physiological maturity, the viability of seed gradually declines.- Field Performance of Bt Cotton Hybrids as IPM Component against Bollworm Complex Damage at Harvest Under Rainfed Condition

A field experiment was conducted at Cotton Research Unit, Dr. PDKV, Akola during 2004-05 under rainfed condition in randomized block design with four replications. Three Bt Cotton hybrids viz, MECH-12 Bt, MECH-162 Bt and MECH-184 Bt and two check hybrids viz, PKV-Hy-2 and NHH-44 were grown at 90 x 60 cm as IPM component. The plant protection packages recommended under IPM module which was developed by Dr. PDKV, Akola during 2003-04 were adopted on all the cotton hybrids. From the present study it was observed that are the three Bt cotton hybrids were found promising in recording significantly less open boll and loculi damage at harvest as compared to check hybrids in spite of no sprays for bollworm control on Bt cotton hybrids whereas three sprays for bollworm control on check hybrids. Keywords

In micropropagation of Momordica dioica Roxb., the axillary bud was found as a best explant than shoot tip for rapid multiplication of three local genotypes comprising of two female (AKSG-5 and AKSG-35) and one male genotype (AKSGM-1). Basal MS medium containing AdSO4 (70 mg/l or 80 mg/l) supplemented with BAP (1.0 mg/l) and NAA (1.0 mg/l) produced maximum multiple shoots (more than 5 per culture) with better growth response.
